8 months agoI love exploring the James river parks. There are so many nooks to discover. The 42nd street entrance is a good spot for access to both quiet waters of the river and the main river if you keep going all the way to the end of the trail. As I explored down the trail, I found myself under the nickel bridge. I have wondered how to get to that trail for a while after walking across the nickel bridge and seeing people below. I was very excited to find a new spot!

a year agoThis was a great place away from the crowds to watch fireworks on July 4th Be prepared to cross some rocks and water to get a good view Parking says closed after dark but they didn't close the gates this holiday evening. Would have like to seen something posted to know about parking in advance. I parked further down the road with a short walk to avoid chance of car being locked in after dark. As always, pack out what you packed in. Leave no trash to keep local spots nice.

a year ago42nd street entrance is such a joy! Today, we got to go and meet friends, rockhop, explore, do a scavenger hunt, skip rocks, etc. Perfect morning for the unreasonable warmth.

6 months agoThis place was my adventure hike from the 42nd Street entrance back in the 1980's when Belle Isle was not a park but more unique place to explore and peak into various uses of the isle over the centuries. The Hydro Electric Plant from a long gone time has its own interesting appeal of the buildings and their mystic. The real challenge is to navigate a way across the rocks to the Isle. When the water is low, more access of rocks help navigate paths without running rapids as some times of the year there.
