a year agoThis theater is super cool! It's in a pretty cute little neighborhood and has such a nice, nostalgic feel to it both inside and out. They play a lot of retro movies and show different ones every week. The showing rooms are small and a little bit dingy, but cozy. With the old movies, they show old trailers as well which can be a lot of fun. Prices are fair and affordable for both the movies and the snacks, and they also offer pizza and sushi as concessions. My partner and I went here for date night to see Airplane! and we are definitely planning on coming back to check out more retro films here. We had a lot of fun and it's very respectable what this place does.

3 weeks agoWe waited in line 40 minutes to pay for our tickets and concessions while other movie goes told their kids to go grab a seat. I heard these parents buy tickets only for themselves, and no one was checking tickets. When we finally bought our tickets we were able to go find the last two seats together I the second row. I'm not sure if it's free to enter but on Sunday following the rules made me never want to go back.

3 months agoA neighborhood mainstay - the Academy has evolved to become our go to movie theater for first run movies. They also have a revival series that highlights all the genres and movies you remember (and some you don't!). You can order tickets ahead online (which we did recently for Nosferatu on its second night) or at the concessions counter when you come in. They have slices from Flying Pie Pizza and sushi from Miyamoto; and a great selection of mostly local brews on tap. There's always an interesting exhibit by a local artist in the lobby too!

4 months agoWe really appreciated being able to reserve a private showing of Moana for our Covid cautious families group. It was excellent as a disabled and immune compromised person to be able to enjoy a matinee, and we loved that the staff masked up for us too. Their kid-popcorn pack was so awesome too, it came with a drink, fruit snacks and popcorn we enjoyed on the ride home. Definitely will book more shows, and we love the vintage theater setting which was just the right size for our group.
