Parents looking for a clean and well-maintained venue for family outings.
Those who value local businesses and 'best in town' concessions like popcorn.

💡Pro Tips from Reviews

  • For families on a budget, consider visiting Village 8 for bargain prices on second-run movies.
  • If comfort is a priority for first-run movies, Baxter Avenue Theaters is specifically recommended for its environment.
  • Individuals with mobility issues (arthritis, leg injury, wheelchair users, walkers, canes, casts) will benefit greatly from the level floors at the Bardstown Road/Village 8 locations.
  • Be aware that if you rely on closed captioning, there have been consistent issues with device functionality at Village 8.
  • Don't miss trying the popcorn, especially at Baxter Avenue.

Things to Consider

  • Prices are described as 'somewhat pricey' by one reviewer, with a suggestion for lower senior prices (Review 1).
  • Significant issue with closed captioning devices at Village 8: devices are often dead, have dead batteries, or are not functional, leading to frustration for deaf customers.

Price & Value

Pricing appears to vary by location and film type. First-run movies at locations like Baxter Avenue might be 'somewhat pricey' according to one review, but Village 8 offers 'bargain prices all day long' for second-run films. There is a conflicting report, with another reviewer stating 'prices are good' generally. Senior prices are mentioned as potentially needing to be lower.

Accessibility & Special Needs

  • Excellent wheelchair accessibility, highlighted by level floors throughout the theaters (no climbing necessary).
  • Facilities are designed to be friendly for individuals with arthritis, leg injuries, or those using walkers, canes, or casts.
  • **Concern**: Persistent issues with non-functional or dead-battery closed captioning devices, particularly at Village 8, which is a major drawback for deaf patrons.

🍎Food & Drink Policy

  • Concessions are available and highlighted, with Baxter Avenue Theaters specifically praised for having the 'best popcorn in town'. This suggests buying their offerings is encouraged, but no explicit outside food policy is stated.

🚗Parking Info

  • Plenty of well-lit parking is available, making arrival and departure convenient.

👥Crowd Levels

  • No specific crowd level or busy times are mentioned in the reviews. One reviewer noted 'plenty of space' without specifying a time.

🛡️Safety Features

  • No specific safety features for children (e.g., supervised play areas, entry/exit controls) are mentioned as it is primarily a movie theater.

When to Avoid

  • Deaf customers relying on closed captioning devices, especially at Village 8, due to persistent issues with device functionality and battery life.
  • If strictly seeking the lowest prices for first-run movies, as some prices are noted as 'somewhat pricey' (though Village 8 offers bargain second-run options).

Baxter Ave. Theaters is one of the few locally owned movie theaters left! They have a great selection of films, they show Rocky Horror monthly and occasional midnight movies! They also have the best popcorn in town! Keep Louisville Weird!

I love to go to this place! I have never had a problem with it being clean or out of something. The prices are good and they are launching a new up grade program to change the seatting and more. They are very Veteran friendly.

Both locations The village 8 as well as Baxter Avenue theatres are great places to see a movie whether you want to see a first-run movie in a wonderful comfortable environment or visiting village 8 for the only second-run theater in the city of Louisville for bargain prices all day long.
