a month agoSean Shelton at Climax Climbing Gym in Tempe is an outstanding instructor and an all-around fantastic person to work with. His passion for climbing is contagious, and he goes above and beyond to ensure everyone feels supported, safe, and motivated — whether you’re a beginner or an experienced climber looking to improve. Sean’s knowledge, patience, and encouraging attitude make every visit to the gym an awesome experience. If you’re thinking about climbing or looking for a great community, Sean is the person to connect with. Highly recommend!

a week agoThis place is more of a home than my actual home. My life changed and took on a whole new trajectory after I discovered Climbmax two years ago. Old school vibe, the best community, and doesn't feel sterile or corporate like the modern gyms popping up all over. Every one of the regulars are always psyched for the newcomers and I feel like Climbmax is just the best atmosphere for people to unlock their true potential and send hard lines inside and out.

a year agoFound Climbmax via recommendation for my super climber 11 year old daughter. Everyone in my family was crazy for this place on the first visit. They educate and prepare and patiently teach from any knowledge level and the climbing opportunities are endless. We're new, so don't know a lot of the lingo yet, but 12/10 highly recommend! Go check out this super cool, locally owned climbing gym!

a year agoMy son decided he really liked the rock wall at his former ninja gym, and he pretty much spent the majority of his time on it when there. So we decided to look for a climbing gym! Climbmax came up, and I read it was under new ownership, so decided to give it a shot. My son LOVES the gym. He loves to boulder, and there are a ton of bouldering walls downstairs and upstairs. the owners are really nice, and they have worked hard to update the gym and foster an encouraging atmosphere. They update their holds regularly and have plenty of crash pads. It's definitely a community-like environment where people help each other and look out for each other. No, they don't have auto-belays, but that's what's great about it! You get to meet people and step outside of your comfort zone. My son is also on their youth climbing team--they have a comp and non comp option. The coach, Rico, is awesome. The kids learn so much, and are getting so strong. If you're on the fence, definitely stop by and give climbmax another shot. We really like it here.

a year agoOld school climbing gym with fun route setting! Lead, toprope, and boulder problems are all fun, and well thought out. Especially the boulder tunnel that connects the two levels. I especially enjoyed that. What really makes this gym unique, though, are the fantastic owners, Sean and Emily. They were very friendly and engaged with us throughout our visit. Their passion for climbing shines through, and you can tell they care about returning this gym to what it once was. I have been a rock climber for close to twenty years now, and I have climbed in many gyms. Climbmax has soul, a thing often missing from newer gyms, and is worth visiting.
