10 months agoAKA "P Patch" is a beautiful trail located in the tranquility of South Valley farms. Durand Open Space is located on what once was an alfalfa farm and landing strip for single and twin engine airplanes. Keypoints: Never crowded (well maybe after my review) Bring the fur babies and enjoy a stroll Bring yourself and meditate 🧘♀️ Bring your family and enjoy time together There are NO RESTROOMS or any other facilities available However, benches and a few picnic tables are available should you wish to take a moment and enjoy the view Oh, I saw people in the water attempting to fish. Yes, there's water when the City opens the acequias to bring water into the communities. Best time to visit is dusk or dawn. But of course, anytime is the best time. Enjoy!

5 years agoThis is a nice trail if you stay on the road. However, going into the wooded area it takes you into tall grassy areas and a lot of bugs and mosquito's. There is a river running parallel to the Rio Grande many tiny frogs, this is why there are so many mosquito's, in the cooler weather this would be the walk of a life time.

5 years agoThis is a wonderful place in the South Valley to walk. It is scenic and you can see ducks, geese and cranes fly over to the river. I walk my dog around the farm fields, and there is easy access to the bosque.

a year agoVery beautiful area, quiet and spacious. Coveniently placed and informative historical markers. Nice wooden sculpture that has, sadly, been vandalized. The only problem is a confusing entrance sign that led to one u-turn and backing up on a well used road (Isleta Boulevard/NM 314) in order to find an entrance.

a year agoNice clean open space - you can opt to loop the old airfield up front, stroll along the flat paths on either side of the irrigation ditch (many homes along this section are pretty fancy with horses, goats or llamas), or head down to the trail in the Bosque along the Rio Grande. Contrary to other reviewers’ reports there IS a Bosque trail. From the parking lot head straight across the paved section of the arroyo, cross the ditch path, and go down to the left (heading north). There is no river trail to the right (south). The river trail goes in a loop, part of which is wooded and part of which parallels the river more closely a with a couple of offshoots that will take you to the river itself. This is a really nice section of the Bosque, especially in the fall when you often can see lots of Sandhill cranes and Canadian geese. The trail is never crowded.
