2 months agoKids love it I loved it. It's a historical place. The pre-movie show and piano man is always a big deal for my kids and this year my Goddaughter loved it. And the people who work the concessions are really rude. For no reason. I was nice to her still, but she was so mean. In front of my children. That's why I knocked stars off.

5 months agoIf you have children or are a kid at heart, the El Capitan Theatre is a must-see. My girlfriend and I attended a screening of Inside Out 2 and had a great time. The theater hosts a wide variety of screenings for Disney-owned properties. Pros: + Great value for tickets and concessions + Family-friendly and clean + The preshows are fun + Free photo ops after screenings, depending on what is being screened. Cons: - When leaving the theater, you are back on filthy Hollywood Blvd.

3 months agoI brought my siblings to watch Inside Out 2. It was at the end of June on a Friday at 8 pm, and the theater was almost entirely empty, which I thought was great. The movie had been out for some time already. So, I imagine it's much busier when the movies are new. The kids had a great time, and the pre-show entertainment was awesome and just as energetic with the crowd of 10 people as they would be with a full theater.

6 months agoEl Capitan Theatre was, overall, a fun experience! My buddy and I went to see Alien Romulus at one of the fan event showings. I had never been to one of these events before and I have to admit it was a good time. They had a few good photo ops as well as props / models from the movie. You also got to take home swag in the form of a popcorn bucket, a lanyard / credential, and a baseball cap, all included in your ticket price. The only reason I'm giving this review four stars versus five is for the following two reasons. The first is that my friend told me there's typically an organ show that happens prior to the movie. While I understand it's probably a new experience for horror shows to be shown at this venue, it's a prime opportunity for organ music and I was a little disappointed that they didn't have an organ performance at this showing. The second, and I say this fully understanding the venue is born out of an actual theater, Is the comfort level compared to even dated movie theaters. The seats are very much old style theater seats. You're sitting practically on top of whoever you're next to, and legroom is practically non-existent. This is especially troublesome when somebody arrives late or needs to use the restroom during the movie, both of which happened during my viewing. Imagine you're watching one of the most quiet and intense parts of the movie, and you're struggling to see around somebody as they're also kicking people's metal popcorn buckets that are screeching on the floor. There was one final thing, but I'm sure it's endearing for anybody who's gone to El Capitan for ages, and that's the curtain show. It was quite cheesy and dated and widely out of place for the type of movie we were watching. If we had been watching a family / Disney movie, sure no problem. But for a horror movie, it was pretty odd. All that being said, I really did have a good time and recommend everybody try El Capitan Theatre at least once!

6 months agoExcellent venue to see a movie in Hollywood! Beautiful, ornately decorated theater, extremely clean, and the staff were so nice! I have never been to a movie theater where the employees were so friendly, polite, and helpful. Next door, a Ghirardelli chocolate shop, and there's 3 dollar validated parking in the Ovation parking structure right across the street. Easiest way to visit Sunset Blvd sites!
