Expert Summary

Detailed Insights

Elite Sports Club-River Glen presents itself as a comprehensive family activity club with appealing outdoor and indoor facilities, including pools and a 'quad' area for children. Its unique value lies in offering both adult fitness options and dedicated, staffed childcare, alongside specific kids' play areas, making it a potential one-stop-shop for family recreation. However, this value is significantly impacted by inconsistencies in safety, supervision, and maintenance.

Key Highlights

  • Childcare staff, specifically Lainie and Ella, are praised for being 'amazing'.
  • General club staff, like trainer Patrick, are noted as friendly.
  • The outdoor pool is highlighted as 'great to hang out in with the family' during the summer.
  • An indoor 'very warm smaller pool' is available, suitable for younger children or relaxation.
  • The 'quad area' offers basketball hoops and 'a lot of play activities for the kids'.
  • Club responded 'amazingly' to a past shooting incident, suggesting good crisis management.

Standout Features

  • Dedicated childcare facility with specific highly-rated staff members (Lainie, Ella).
  • Outdoor family pool for summer enjoyment.
  • Indoor warm smaller pool.
  • Quad area equipped with basketball hoops and various play activities.
  • Friendly and approachable general staff on the floor.

Perfect For

Young Children (Toddler-Elementary): Childcare is available, with specific staff (Lainie, Ella) highly recommended. However, supervision concerns mean direct parental oversight or inquiry is recommended. The warm smaller pool and parts of the quad area are likely suitable.
School-Aged Children: 'Kids love going over there to work and hang out', suggesting activities like basketball hoops and other play activities in the quad, and pools are engaging. The climbing structure is a draw but has a safety issue.
Teens: Can use gym facilities, but 'children run loose in the weight room' and general maintenance issues might deter serious workouts. Uncomfortable situations related to 'older gentleman watching younger girls' is a significant concern for parents of teen girls.

Ideal For

Families seeking a single club offering both adult workout facilities and designated activity/childcare options for children.
Parents looking for a family-friendly outdoor pool experience during the summer.
Families who appreciate specific, friendly childcare providers and are willing to monitor the general environment.
Kids who enjoy basketball and general 'play activities' in a multi-purpose 'quad' area.

💡Pro Tips from Reviews

  • If utilizing childcare, parents should closely observe supervision levels, especially during initial visits, due to reported lapses.
  • Exercise caution and actively supervise children in the quad's climbing structure due to a reported head injury hazard.
  • Be aware of potential safety risks for children in the main gym areas (e.g., weight room) due to unsupervised children.
  • Manage expectations regarding gym equipment functionality and overall cleanliness/tidiness.
  • Inquire about the status of the outdoor hot tub if it's a desired amenity for your family.

Things to Consider

  • Childcare supervision is inconsistent: instructors observed on phones, talking to each other, resulting in a child getting hurt and another's hair being pulled.
  • Children frequently 'run loose in the weight room', creating safety hazards for themselves and adults.
  • A structural hazard exists on the climbing structure in the quad area (1.5-inch wood pieces above stairs), leading to head injuries (one report of bleeding).
  • Equipment maintenance is poor, with machines 'constantly out of order' for at least a week.
  • Cleanliness is an issue: 'locker rooms as well as the weight room has increasingly carried a smell of marijuana', towels/cups/weights are scattered, and members are not wiping down machines, potentially 'spreading disease and dirt'.
  • Some members feel uneasy due to an 'older gentleman watching younger girls working out'.
  • The outdoor hot tub has been under construction 'for a number of years'.
  • General quality has 'significantly decreased over the last 3 years'.

Price & Value

Membership is perceived as 'not cheap' and has been subject to price increases without a corresponding improvement in quality, according to one long-term member. Another reviewer notes that for the price, equipment maintenance 'should be better'. However, one family finds enough value to 'keep it and sacrifice elsewhere', suggesting that for some, the family-wide access outweighs the cost and quality issues.

Accessibility & Special Needs

  • No specific accessibility accommodations mentioned in reviews.

🍎Food & Drink Policy

  • No specific food and drink policies mentioned in reviews.

🚗Parking Info

  • No specific parking information mentioned in reviews.

👥Crowd Levels

  • Not explicitly stated, but issues like 'children run loose', 'towels, cups and weights are scattered', and 'people are not wiping down machines' suggest it can be busy or lack adequate supervision/staffing at times.

🛡️Safety Features

  • **Positive Response to Incident:** The club reportedly 'responded amazingly' to a prior shooting incident, indicating a capacity for crisis management.
  • **Concerns:** Lack of active supervision in childcare leading to child injuries (getting hurt, hair pulled). Unsupervised children in dangerous areas (weight room). A structural hazard on a climbing structure causing head injuries. Unreported issues of 'older gentleman watching younger girls working out' causing discomfort. General unsanitary conditions due to lack of wiping down machines.

When to Avoid

  • If consistent, high-level supervision in childcare is a non-negotiable priority without direct parental monitoring.
  • If your children are prone to wandering or require strict supervision to prevent them from entering potentially unsafe areas like the weight room.
  • If gym cleanliness, well-maintained equipment, and a tidy environment are paramount for your family's experience.
  • If sensitivity to uncomfortable public behaviors is high, particularly for families with young girls.
  • If the outdoor hot tub is a primary reason for membership, as it has been under long-term construction.

This gym is fantastic, for the price the equipment should be better maintained, and I’d personally pay for a hack squat machine lol. Special shout out to the amazing stuff, especially Lainie and Ella in the childcare, Patrick is always a friendly trainer on the floor, and the rest of the staff is just as great. The shooting is unfortunate, but there’s nothing the club could’ve done to prevent it and they’ve responded amazingly. Love you guys!

I have been a member of Elite going on 7 years now and I can confidently say the quality of the River Glen location has significantly decreased over the last 3 years. Children run loose in the weight room, putting themselves and the people actually working out in danger. The locker rooms as well as the weight room has increasingly carried a smell of marijuana. Towels, cups and weights are scattered all over the place. It’s hard to tell what machine is available because of how often they are littered with people’s personal belongings. Also, finding the equipment I need to complete a workout has turned into a wild goose chase or plain disappointment because machines are constantly “out of order” for at least a week at a time. People are not wiping down machines after use, spreading disease and dirt. Something to mention that I understand is out of the employees control is how often I notice the older gentleman watching younger girls working out, makes me uneasy and uncomfortable. Considering the opening of newer gyms in Mequon, Elite is crazy for raising their prices but not raising their quality standard. Also after this recent shooting, the ball is in Elites court to up their game or else they will lose a lot of business

Excellent neighborhood Gym and and activity Club. Our family has a membership and my kids love going over there to work and hang out. My wife works out there all the time on the gym as well as in the pools. In the summer the outdoor pool is great to hang out in with the family. Reason for four versus five stars is the Outdoor hot tub has been under construction for a number of years it seems. They have an indoor lap pool as well as a very warm smaller pool so shouldn't complain too much. There's a number of other facilities as well as a member, one up in Mequon and one in Brookfield. The quad area has basketball hoops and a lot of play activities for the kids. Membership isn't cheap in my opinion but my family loves it so we keep it and sacrifice elsewhere.

Today was the first day I dropped my daughter off at childcare. I watched her from the second floor for a few minutes. The instructors didn't pay enough attention to the children. They were on the phone and talking to each other.while, one child got hurt and my daughter had her hair pulled. We had a bad experience for the first day

I really like this club but on the climbing structure in the quad and there are these 1.5 in pieces of wood above the stairs, and my friend hit her head on one if them while running up the stairs. She ended up bleeding a little bit. For it to be safer for other kids the pieces of wood should really be taken down.
