5 months agoMy husband and I recently went to see “White Christmas” which was put on by the “First Act Theatre Arts Company” in November. We had traveled a long way to come to another event in that area, but had bought tickets to come to this play also. We were very pleased and amazed at the level of professionalism the performers portrayed. When we arrived, we thought, with it being done at Avila University, that college students were going to be possibly be putting on this performance, but after we got there, we soon found out that it was young children through seniors doing the play. We VERY MUCH enjoyed their performance and came out of there very pleased with our hearts smiling. We are glad we had the opportunity to see this play and wanted to share this positive experience under “Reviews.”

4 months agoThis community of talented young people provides a safe place where ALL kids 8-18 are welcomed and encouraged in their acting, singing, and dancing. My kids have found and developed tremendous friends. The partnership between First Act and it's community is fun to be a part of. As parents, we get to watch our kids perform amazing shows. But just as important, as parents, we also build friendships with other amazing parents through our involvement in the show. Highly recommend if you're looking for something fun and educational for your child

a year agoFirst Act has been family from day one. New members are treated like veterans and everyone is encouraged to have fun and do try their best all while incorporating worship and praise. I have seen my son grow from shy to outgoing and passionate. The staff is amazing and genuinely cares about each student. I highly recommend First Act Theatre Arts Kansas City!

3 weeks agoI can't say enough great things about First Act. My daughter participated in the middle school summer camp earlier this year and it was an amazing experience. By the second day of camp she texted me and said, "At lunch today, we all of sudden broke out into music and started singing a bunch of songs. They’re just as weird as me and I hadn't had this much fun with anyone in so long and they are nice and accepting of how weird everyone is (a cool kind of weird). I made two more friends today." If you have ever been around theatre groups, you may have experienced the attitudes and judgement from the different cliques, but you will not find that here. You can't tell the difference between those who have been here for 10-15 years from the newbies. They just make you feel like this is where you belong. As a parent, I can say the same thing for the adults/parents! Every single person I came into contact with was encouraging, uplifting, and welcoming to me and my family. This fall, both of my daughters took dance and voice lessons, which have been amazing! A lot of the staff are adults that were part of the program as kids and they just love it so much that they have come back to teach. They are first-rate teachers! There are many organizations that claim to be faith-based programs, but First Act lives it out in the way they treat every single person and they have cultivated an atmosphere of acceptance, kindness, and belonging. If you are looking for a great place for your kids to get plugged into theatre, you couldn't find a better organization than First Act Theatre Arts.
