a month agoNature Center and Refuge with bison and prairie dogs that we could not see. We still saw, though, some wild boars in the preserve - that are not welcomed here, according to the sour attendant at the gate. The admission rules, though, are irrational and even ridiculous - or stupid. For instance: - Dogs are charged 1 dollar admission!! - "Smoking is prohibited." - " No audible radios or loud music." - " No visiting before or after posted hours." - " Visitors on the grounds after hours WILL be locked in." So, I guess the dogs themselves will have to pay entrance fees, right? Not clear from the posted information. Smoking is prohibited. Is this place a church or hospital? And what does it mean, "No audible radios"? Can a radio work without sound? For other parks admissions, the charges are for the vehicle. Here all occupants of the vehicle are charged a fee. Six occupants in a vehicle would cost 36 dollars!! Talk about rip off or extortion! And the threat: "Visitors on the grounds after hours WILL be locked in," and forced to call the Fort Worth Police in order to be rescued. WHY SUCH BRUTALITY? IS THIS THE KIND OF APPROACH THAT WILL ENTICE VISITORS TO THE REFUGE? If not ridiculous, stupid, and brutal these rules and other similar ones are at least written in very poor English, confusing, and irritating - let alone threatening! Not worth visiting. Will not be back here!!!

2 months agoExcellent!!! Upon arrival stopped at the gate there was a road runner. After more of a drive deer. Prairie dogs. Lots of walking trails, very nice building with facilities and gift shop. The lady at the desk was great. She told us the buffalo were on vacation though. Great experience. I hope to go back for a day and explore

a month agoVery pretty and clean reserve to hike and explore! The bison were unreal! I'd say that the downside is that the trails are extremely narrow and difficult to navigate - or at least the on we chose that took you up on elevated grounds that overlooked the lake through the historic brick arch. I wouldn't recommend bringing your dog along as it was cumbersome to get around and we ended up with 4+ ticks on us. I loved the scenery and the advanced difficulty of the path but when you needed to pass someone yourself or they had to step into the bushes to let them pass. I'd also recommend not going after it rains as it was extremely muddy and had pooled water in areas. There was only one porta potty at the end of the path that was co ed. Would've been nice to have multiple.

a month agoMy favorite place to hike near Fort Worth. Several trails to choose from and the Nature Center staff are friendly and helpful. Not free to enter but very reasonable and I bought an annual membership since I visit so often.

5 months agoGreat managed trails for all hiking levels! One of my favorite places to go to in DFW. The events are amazing as well. I did a guided kayaking tour and it was incredibly informative as well as fun. I’m definitely getting a membership for myself and my family.
