We did the audio tour that is free on the national Park service. It was good we enjoyed walking around and getting to see Boston and learning or relearning a little bit of that early American history. It’s nice cause you can stop in at cafés or bakeries along the way if you like there’s a lot to choose from. Definitely recommend.

FREEDOM TRAIL START point ! Here you will find in the middle of Boston Common a small visitor center boutique, where you can get a map and also find a line on the floor which you can follow to do the Freedom Trail. This trail is really a route that will indicate to you all the major sites in Boston related to the history of the Independence of the USA. We really enjoyed doing it even if it took a few hours. Highly recommend specially for non-americans as it will teach you a bit about the history of this great country.

One of the most important historical walks you can go on in this country. Take your time, read the signs, do some homework ahead of the visit, etc. If you know some of the stories behind all these facilities, the walk will be all the more inspiring.

The freedom trail is a must when you’re in Boston. We did all of it on foot, from Boston Common to Bunker Hill Monument. It takes about 2h-2h30 to complete. Personally, the audio tour was enough for us. We took our time to walk to the stops, sat down and listened to our audio tour when needed and we could take plenty of time to shop & visit in between stops, so we really feel like it was the best way to do it. Note that it’s very windy on the bridge to the other side and it’s a lot of walking. Be ready !

I highly recommend walking the freedom trail. Pickup a map from the info center to learn a little about each stop along the way. The trail is easy to follow along its path of red bricks and takes you to many points important to our history.
