This is a real treat of an experience. I've driven past this little spot of land for years and I had no idea that there was history here. The park is well put together and the trail was a very nice little hike. If you have little ones or the elderly they won't have much trouble here, there are no steep hills or slippery paths. They make sure to mark out each out the landmarks and history involved with the area and the project. It was a nice Sunday stroll and I will come back in the future.

This is a cool place to visit. I used to live close by before it was built. I was very surprised and intrigued when I saw it. There’s lots of information as you walk the trail. Each stop has some fossils to read about. The trail we did was around a two mile loop. I would not recommend strollers as the ground is rough. There is plenty of spots to sit and rest.

This was such a cute little state park found in North Las Vegas. Quite the drive as I live closer to Henderson but I hadn't had a chance to explore this since it opened The entrance fee was $3 per person and they had a small visitor center which told you about fossils found there, and the research that had been done, along with a video to sit and watch. The trails were probably a total of 3 mi long with minimal shade, however; there are shade structures along the trails. You may even get lucky and see some lizards, or snakes. There was also a nice shaded area with plenty of picnic tables, an upkept bathroom and water bottle fill up station to the right of the visitors center. The trails were well marked, and you are able to walk through some of the portion that have been dug out in the past. Be cautious of the weather, as you are fully exposed to the heat/sun. Even at 70°, we were starting to feel hot.

This is such a nice park to visit and learn about fossils and specifically in southern Nevada. The displays inside are well done and engaging. Outdoors there is plenty to see including the huge mammoth that greets you at the entrance. It is beautifully designed as well. From the trails to the fossils, this is place that can be enjoyed by all ages.

A local gem. The Great Dig is an important part of world-wide paleontology and geology. The park has 3 hikes, all are exposed to the sunlight. Even in cool weather, the sun is intense. Please bring a hat, water, and a pair of ratty shoes, because the silty dirt will destroy nice shoes. The trails require the ability to climb up and down small hills, and there are no restrooms on the trail. There is a visitors center on site with friendly staff and clean, flushable restrooms.
