3 months agoPlease tell me the reasoning behind this. I come there with my 15 year old son to play basketball in the gym. We waited for 30 mins to get a basketball then told we need to pay 5 dollars for a new card. After 14 mins shooting the basketball with my son, a secretary/security guard woman comes in a tells me I need to leave the gym ; as I am not a teen? She said she received a message from “up top” stating I couldn’t be in the gym. There was not a sole in the building at this time. I asked the secretary upon leaving with my son why I couldn’t shot a basketball in the building. She seemed more Lost then other woman. Tax dollars hard at work and why the place is vacant 90 percent of the time !!

8 months agoI called the registration phone number to inquire about the possibility of registering by mail for a certain program, was given a non-answer, and then abruptly put on hold. After several minutes I was transferred to an automated voice message which allowed me to leave my phone number for a callback, but I never heard back. Talk about poor customer service!

a year agoAmazing place to bring kids to after work or on the weekends to run around and play on the turf/gym. Had a birthday party here and would recommend 10/10. 3/5 because they only offer daycare and kids classes during the workday for stay at home parents. There is hardly anything available for working parents.

2 years agoThe new rec center is very nice inside. Great use of the old mall. As of this writting, today was our day visiting. The staff was friendly and helpful. The facilities, including bathrooms clean. My three year old enjoyed the tot turf and basketball court. We signed up for some kiddie classes, so we're looking forward to those this fall.

2 years agoLove the new space — lots of sunlight. The play area is great and distracts my little one while my older child is at coordinated sports activities. Viewing basketball practice is way for parents and we can now invite the Grands to view practice as well. Hoping in the future they will add more times and types of Yoga to support a regular yoga practice. Would also make sense if they add a pool and weekend kids classes to this center eventually. This community — old folks and very young kids— need aqua classes and more family swim times ( more than what can be offered using the IHS pool). Its so odd that there isn’t access to a pool for seniors, especially given the new senior center is practically attached. My young family still carries a membership at a community center outside of Irondequoit bc it offers a pool and beginner level weekend classes for the kids. I don’t want every weeknight to be hauling my kids to some dance class or practice!
