6 months agoThis is one of my favorite places to hike! Knothead Trail is steep enough to give a good workout and the lower Painted Rocks Trail is easier if you don't want to work that hard. This area is so beautiful with the river, wildlife and flora, it's a peaceful and entertaining way to get some fresh air and exercise! Also a fun, peaceful river for kayaking where we've seen moose, herons, beavers and lots of other wildlife.

a year agoIt's a nice area for a hike. If you're not in decent shape I wouldn't recommend doing the full hiking loop. I didn't give 5 stars because this area doesn't allow dogs, which I disagree with. It's not like we're walking on holy ground here...Dogs should be allowed.

a year agoWell I finally took a day and explored the south side of the little Spokane at the Little Spokane Natural Area using the St. George’s Trail. The trail along the edge of the basin is overgrown with sharp grasses and nettles and stingy poky things so be ready for leg protection or slightly stinging legs lol. But once you start climbing the mountain to the south, headed for the Natural Steps of Stone, you come across geology and rock formations that are distinctly similar to those found at Minnehaha Park, east Spokane near the Spokane River. After climbing the mountain and walking through the natural steps, ledges, and formations that form what feels like gathering places. Natural rock theaters and dramatic castle walls in a magic world!! It’s really an amazing landscape. I generally follow trails to get there, but indefinitely wander off trail where the cool stuff always is 😁 So I ranked up to the tops of each new gigantic rocklike and bathed in the hot sun, completely alone with only a squirrel that acted as the home security system, chirping furiously when another animal approached our lore!!’ lol Anyways, I “Bouldered” until I was sore and tired then made my way back toward the bridge where I parked alongside the road and displayed my Adventure Pass of course. But before getting back to the truck I just had to soak in the river for a few four hours lol. Wading through the six foot tall grasses getting stung by every nettle plant ever grown, I landed at a tiny sand beach shoal that served as my own private spot. I can’t say enough about this area. I’m gonna show you some secret spots in my pics that you’ll have to find and post your own pics of!!!
