Read some of Philip’s responses to these reviews from multiple disappointed players and that will tell you everything you need to know about NSL’s culture and values. Nashville deserves better from an organization that should be centered around fun. I’ve played in multiple leagues for 7 years, their policies are inconsistent and are not in favor of the players, and there have been too many poor experiences with refs/umps to continue. I don’t recommend spending your money with NSL.

I've been playing with NSL for 5+ years now. Highly recommend. Their parks for beach volleyball are well kempt, lit, and safe for nights. The leagues are always well coordinated/organized. I loved my refs Gil, Jimmy, Tyler and Maris! (Gil might even build a sandcastle with your kid during a break) Weather updates are clearly communicated and my team always has a lot of fun. Also love the occasional player appreciation events for the free booze *wink*

I’ve been playing volleyball with NSL for 4 seasons (indoor and outdoor) and just can’t get enough! Karys is the best ref by far. She’s attentive and always brings the best tunes for us!

(Spoiler: The 5 star reviews below are due to the owner telling umps whoever solicited the most 5-star reviews got a $100 gift card) I worked in NSL"s office and also as an ump for a season. In short, NSL is just unprofessional and prioritizes profits over everything else. This office was led by owner/operator Philip. He was frequently flustered with all kinds of customer issues. He wouldn’t give refunds even if they likely deserved it and he’d hide what he wants in ever-changing fine print. Occasionally he’d be verbally disrespectful to myself or Emily, despite how loyal and effective Emily was at her job. Nothing seemed streamlined and Philip had other businesses to run. Some leagues/tournaments would struggle to get enough players, which could cause stress and shortcuts were taken. I'd eventually quit working in the office after 8-ish weeks due to its lack of professionalism. As an ump, things were better for most the season. I umped at East Park, Kickball on Thursday nights. Teams were mostly fun and we had a good season. I’d also work other kickball nights to be helpful (NSL is low on staff) and most of those were more stressful, due to NSL’s lack of prep or organization/communication. But then it got worse. Playoffs arrive for my Thursday night league. We were moved from East Park to Rose Park’s turf field. More lack of prep/organization. Lineup cards were missing, no prep for the field, no time to prep to get the games on time and craziest: we’re forced to share our outfield with a live soccer match. I was blown away and teams hated it. Two days later, I worked the Jingle Balls kickball tournament. More lack of prep and more disorganization. Told to arrive at 9 and yet games start at 9. Nothing was ready. Most of what I was told by ownership wasn’t accurate (ref shirts, lunch break). Things I needed to know, I wasn’t informed of or told mixed things: pool play rules, which field I was umping, the bases were the wrong distance, etc. I fixed a lot of it and, as always, did my best to make sure all had fun. I also found out that many teams signed up for a recreational division and yet were forced into playing in a much tougher competitive division. So they were lied to on sign up. Again, this goes back to not enough people wanting to play with NSL's leagues/events. So NSL forces rec teams to play against competitive teams. (It’s almost impossible for a rec team to beat a competitive team.) NSL basically just took their money and then cheated them. At that point, the season was over and I was done umping for NSL. I wasn't going to return. Yet hilariously, I was fired ("no longer needing your services") the next Monday for not being available to chat about Thursday’s kickball, feedback I’d already submitted on Slack. In my free time. The week before Christmas. While I was with my family. I came from a Chattanooga league that ran pretty smoothly⸺like no issues⸺so I feel like I have a feel for how things should go. NSL needs help. Oh and they shorted my pay on my final check. I worked 9 hours that kickball tournament and didn’t get a lunch break, despite confirming with Philip that I would get one. I will not work for this league again. I don’t know much about Mid-State Sports Leagues, but I would give them a look first.

Benjamin was an amazing ref, he was very fair and assertive. Even when the other team attempted to bribe him he stuck true to his code of honor and maintained his integrity throughout the game.Truly a testament to his character, we need more people like him in this world.
