a week agoThe National Aviary is a wonderful sanctuary for all types of birds. It provides them with large areas to free roam and mingle with each other. I recently visited this place with my boyfriend and while he isn't a big fan of animals, I caught him genuinely enjoying watching the birds more than once. They are silly creatures, especially the flamingos. They don't call them bird brains for nothing. I participated in the Rainbow Lorikeet feeding, which was a lot more enjoyable than I thought. My only complaint is that they were extremely loud, likely either excited to see people, be fed, or both. The only downside to the experience is that it's a bit pricey, $20.00 for each adult ticket plus $3.00 for the bird feeding event, and it is generally marketed towards a younger, childlike audience which made me, a 19 year old, feel slightly out of place there. However, the price and the minor discomfort with the usual age of visitors did not deter me once I saw all the birds having fun and flying around. I do believe it was genuinely worth my time and money because it was a special place that I likely won't be able to go to again. I appreciate all of the workers and volunteers for helping foster a healthy and friendly environment for the birds to thrive and enjoy their lives even though they are not out in their natural habitat.

a week agoOur visit to the National Aviary in Pittsburgh was truly unforgettable! From the moment we walked in, it was clear we were in for something special. The experience was nothing short of amazing —beautifully maintained habitats, incredible up-close encounters with stunning birds from all over the world, and a calm, welcoming atmosphere that made it so easy to explore and enjoy. The staff were outstanding, so knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Every question we had was answered with such care and enthusiasm, and they went out of their way to make sure we had the best possible visit. The National Aviary is a must-visit gem in Pittsburgh, whether you’re a bird lover or just looking for a unique, memorable outing. We loved every second and can’t wait to go back!

a month agoHad a great time here with the kids. We enjoyed all the different areas. It was great to see all the birds walking around not scared of humans. We got some great pictures of the birds up close. We did the bird feeding adventure and the girls really liked it. We were surprised how small the place is but it still has alot of cool birds to see.

2 weeks agoAs a Pittsburgh wedding photographer, I’ve had the opportunity to shoot at countless venues, and the National Aviary remains one of my absolute favorites — it’s truly one of the most unique and fun wedding venues in Pittsburgh. Every time I photograph a wedding here, I’m reminded just how special it is. From a visual standpoint, the venue is a dream: the garden ceremony space is spectacular, with lush greenery and vibrant blooms that photograph beautifully. Natural light floods the area, creating the perfect romantic atmosphere for an outdoor “I do.” The indoor spaces are just as stunning, offering a modern and versatile canvas for receptions — and let’s be honest, where else can you have a penguin crash cocktail hour? It’s such a cool, memorable touch that guests always rave about — and it makes for some unforgettable candid shots. If you're a couple looking for a wedding venue in Pittsburgh that's out of the ordinary, full of personality, and offers an incredible experience for your guests, the National Aviary is an unbeatable choice. And as someone who’s worked behind the lens at this venue many times, I can confidently say it always delivers magic.

4 weeks agohighly recommend. exceptional place for animals and staff ✨ had a wonderful and fun guest experience. I was thoroughly impressed by the quality of care the establishment gives to all the creatures that live there. well thought out and one can tell that it is genuinely out of love and care for these animals. not only that, the staff I randomly came across all seem genuinely proud and happy to work there. they were excited to share facts, answer questions, and gave so many wonderful tips to anyone to improve animal welfare in our daily lives. I personally feel like all animal establishments and organizations should learn from this place. I was very impressed & happy that the animals here were given more than the general standard of care. lots of them are in an environment that fosters socialization and enrichment ☺️✨🙂↕️
