Optimus Entertainment, while once praised for its affordability and suitability for diverse age groups and birthday parties with varied activities like VR, laser tag, and bumper cars, is now plagued by severe operational and hygiene issues. Reviewers note unpleasant smells, excessively dark and hot conditions, unsanitary toddler areas, and a prevalence of bootleg arcade games. Crucially, the business has demonstrated extreme unreliability, including unannounced closures for pre-booked events, and is strongly suggested to be permanently closed.

💡Pro Tips from Reviews
- →**CRITICAL:** Verify the venue's operational status before planning any visit or booking, as multiple reviews strongly suggest it is permanently closed (Reviews 4, 5).
- →If the venue were open and you were to visit with toddlers, be aware of potentially dark lighting, hot temperatures, and unhygienic conditions in the dedicated toddler area (Review 2).
- →Manage expectations for arcade game quality and authenticity, as many are bootleg with inconsistent performance (Review 3).
- →Understand that VR stations offer experiences rather than full games (Review 3).
Things to Consider
- ⚠The venue is described as smelly, hot, and excessively dark ('almost pitch black besides lights on the games'), with management refusing to adjust lighting for parents with toddlers (Review 2).
- ⚠Toddler play area is reported as unclean, smelling like urine, and causing children's feet to become 'filthy' after playing barefoot (Review 2).
- ⚠Many arcade games are bootleg/unlicensed ('Pandora's Box'), exhibiting inconsistent performance, with some classic games (e.g., Tetris Grand Masters) running at 30-50% speed (Review 3).
- ⚠Game modifications, such as 'Outrun 2' having its original music replaced with a looping random pop track, are present (Review 3).
- ⚠VR stations offer 'experiences' but do not feature full games like Beat Saber, Superhot, or Pistol Whip (Review 3).
- ⚠The driving simulator is not suitable for experienced racing gamers (Review 3).
- ⚠Extreme unreliability and poor customer service, exemplified by the owner closing the business and sending staff home while a pre-booked 5th-grade school trip (which traveled 5 hours) was en route, without notifying the main contact (Review 4).
- ⚠School group expected to retrieve their money back after a cancellation by the venue (Review 4).
- ⚠Strong evidence suggests the business is permanently closed, with a locked door and an empty, 'trashed up' parking lot (Review 5).
Price & Value
Described as 'very affordable' (Review 1). However, there is a risk of paying for services not rendered due to unannounced closures, with one school group hoping to get their money back (Review 4).
♿Accessibility & Special Needs
- •No specific accommodations mentioned. The venue is intentionally kept 'almost pitch black' (Review 2), which could be an accessibility concern for some visitors.
🍎Food & Drink Policy
- •Food was mentioned as 'good' in the context of a birthday party (Review 1). No other details provided about general food policies or offerings.
🚗Parking Info
- •The parking lot is described as 'empty and trashed up,' suggesting disuse rather than parking availability when operational (Review 5).
👥Crowd Levels
- •No information provided regarding crowd levels when operational.
🛡️Safety Features
- •Kids are required to take shoes off in the toddler area, but this was cited as a hygiene concern rather than a safety feature due to the area being 'filthy' and smelling like urine (Review 2). No other safety features mentioned.
⏰When to Avoid
- • Making any bookings or travel plans without explicit, current confirmation of operation and reliability, given past instances of unannounced closures (Review 4, 5).
- • Visiting if you are a hardcore gamer seeking authentic or high-performance arcade experiences (Review 3).
- • Families with toddlers sensitive to dark, unhygienic, or smelly environments (Review 2).
- • Anyone relying on the venue for pre-booked events, especially school trips or parties requiring significant travel, due to extreme unreliability (Review 4).

a year agoIt has potential but its lacking. It smells, hot and dark. Like almost pitch black besides lights on the games. I asked can the light be turned on because I had 2 toddlers with me and the manager said “no, this is how we keep it”. The toddler area needs to be cleaned. They require kids take their shoes off and their feet was filthy after playing and the area smelled like urine. If we wasn’t invited to a party we would have immediately left.

5 years agoTL;DR: Great for casuals, hardcore gamers stay away. When I heard that a new arcade was opening up in New Orleans, I was very excited, and for the casual looker, this will fill their needs. However, a good number of issues prevent this location from being a regular spot for me. The main arcade is definitely a unique experience, with multiple non-traditional ticket games with inconsistent timing and huge RNG pools that make AP tough, though the prize selection is simple and has some good picks. Many of the selling points of this arcade include VR stations with a variety of experiences (no full games like Beat Saber, Superhot, or Pistol Whip), a driving simulator (not suitable for anyone who's played more traditional racing games like Forza or Grand Turismo), along with new laser tag setups and a small bumper car arena. As for the true arcade games, while I wasn't able to test Dance Central, I did take some time to play on a variety of their racing, fighting, shooter, and puzzle games. This is where it all breaks down. I'll call out two specific examples. One is the build of Outrun 2, which was actually a modified version of Outrun 2006 for PC. While it played fine, the game asks for a selection concerning car, course, and so on, then proceeds to dump back into a script that selects the options again for you, and then after some loading, starts. Okay, fine. Then the game starts, and all the music has been replaced with some random pop track?! The original rock and house tracks got replaced, and it just loops the same song over and over. Definitely not Outrun 2. Next, let's look at their multicades. While official multicades are available, if I mention "Pandora's Box" you should know what to expect. Inconsistent performance, a variety of unlicensed games, and easily the slowest game of Tetris Grand Masters I've played in my life. This system CRAWLS and I'm not kidding. This thing runs at about 30-50% speed and makes playing properly impossible. I had to stop after a minute of in game time (around 2:30 actual time) and move on. To finish off, the fighting games played well, and the controls were snappy despite not being Sanwa parts. No lag on SFV, and looking at another player doing Tekken 7, it wasn't bad at all. In conclusion, most people will come here for a bit and have an absolute blast, but this place is not suitable for anyone looking for an authentic arcade. The huge examples of running bootleg arcade games is a massive red flag and absolutely must be corrected before I come back in. I wish this company the best of luck in making a solid arcade, but I want to pay the people that developed these games, not an anonymous shell company producing random PCBs with illegal software. Background: I've been going to arcades for 20+ years, focusing on rhythm and hardcore games including DDR, PIU, SDVX, and a wide variety of classic games including Pac-Man, Tempest, Galaga, and Centipede.

12 months agoOptimus Entertainment does not need to be in the customer service industry. My child's school traveled 5 hours as a part of the 5th-grade class celebration only to arrive and be disappointed by this company. The owner sent his staff home and closed the business while we were en route. The school secretary called to tell us the disturbing news. He didn't even have the audacity to contact the main point of contact. We had a bus full of children who were extremely disappointed. Especially since it was the first time visiting New Orleans for some of the children. How can anyone who has a conscience do this to young children? I bet they took the money and ran. Hopefully, the school can get their money back. Luckily the children have such a great group of parents who got together to find somewhere else for them to go! As a travel agent, I would never recommend this place to any of my clients.
