a month agoPincushion is an easy trail offering stunning views of Millerton and the central valley. It's about a 2 - 3 hour out and back trail that parallels the San Joaquin trail. There is a steep section if you're starting from the trailhead but once you're past that, you got it! The trail is packed and easy to navigate. Early morning before sunrise offers a peaceful, quiet and relaxing experience. The fog as the sun rises offers breathtaking beauty.

2 months agoGreat 2 mile and a quarter hike, back and forth. Beautiful views overseeing 2 bodies of water, can’t be beat. It’s a moderate hike and the last stretch is on a steep and narrow climb so I don’t suggest children under 10. Lots of cows, they are friendly but they leave a lot of poop. I suggest hiking shoes and water on hot days since there is no tree coverage. Hiking sticks help a lot.

a week agoThe reward at the end of this trail is worth it. Such a beautiful gem here in the Central Valley. This was the first trail that I’ve ever hiked and i try to go as often as possible.

3 months agoExcellent views from the top. There's 2 main paths (one, starting at the end of the road and at lake level (harder) and one along the side of the road a ways up but limited parking) to get to the top. Once up, beautiful 😁👍

4 months agoPrepare Your Glutes: A Review of Pincushion peak trail This hike is like a never-ending Stairmaster, but with a view. No matter which way you choose to ascend, you'll be greeted by an incline that will have your quads screaming "mercy!" However, once you conquer that initial climb, the rest of the trail is a relatively gentle stroll, almost making you forget the brutal ascent. Pro Tip: Bring extra snacks. You'll need the energy to fuel your descent, which will undoubtedly involve some light bouldering (think "gentle rock scrambling"). But don't let that deter you! The rewards are immense. This spot is a local favorite, especially around sunset. You'll find yourself surrounded by fellow adventurers, all mesmerized by the same breathtaking panorama. To the west, the serene waters of Millerton Lake shimmer, while to the east, Kennedy Table stands majestically, with the awe-inspiring Sierra Nevada wilderness stretching beyond. Overall: A challenging but ultimately rewarding hike. Just be prepared to feel the burn in your legs.
