🛡️Safety Policy
- • Use caution when crossing the wooden bridges that span the canals at Pumphouse Park.
- • Life jackets are strongly recommended at all water levels due to swift currents, hazards, and unknown depths in the James River.
- • River levels between 4 – 5.5ft are ideal for paddle sports, swimming, and other river recreation in the James River, while levels above 6ft are much more hazardous.
- • When kayaking or canoeing in the James River, it is required that you wear a personal floatation device no matter the water level.
- • The James River bottom is uneven, so it’s still possible to get in over your head even when the river level is low. Wear close-toed shoes when in the water, and if swept up by a rapid, float feet first to protect your head until you can swim free.

3 months agoThe photos on here do not give it justice! This is a beautiful park to visit. It’s exciting to learn the house there is being restored. Additionally, no folks were there we went (back in summer of last year). Highly recommend you go out to it!

a month agoThis is a really neat park with some interesting history. Additionally, it does not seem like a very well known spot, so it was not very crowded when I went. The old pump house is being renovated, but you can still see the outside. The trails nearby are nice to walk on and you can really see the old locks from a canal. While there is parking nearby, you should expect a short walk to the park.

a year agoThis is our go to, favorite spot in town to step away into nature!! We went swimming here often during the summer, but have lately just been enjoying walking the trails with the fall colors! Very quiet and peaceful. When in season, keep an eye out for paw paw and passion fruit, both are a delicious treat to forage! I can’t wait to continue to see progress on the actual pump house and am so happy to see them working on it! It never gets old looking at such an architecturally beautiful and historically significant building when we come here!

3 weeks agoGreat historic building in a small park with walking trails. On Fridays they have tours of the interior but otherwise you can only see the exterior of the building and the surrounding property. Also has access to get photos of the old train bridge nearby.
