3 months agoI purchased a membership last year for R.E I they gave me a thirty dollar gift card. I did not know that there was an expiration date on the gift card and I misunderstood when they explained to me. Anyway, I went in this afternoon to make a purchase. And the employee was kind enough to allow me to have a purchase discount in the same amount of the expired gift card. This store is always clean and has so much merchandise. In the very back of the store , there is a clearance rack , so be sure to check that out. All of the employees that I have had contact with have been professional and very friendly and accommodating. We will be back here for sure.

a year agoSuch a great store! This location is huge and they have so many products for different types of adventures. There’s camping equipment, hiking gear, cold weather and snowboarding gear, bouldering, kayaking, backpacking and more. REI carries name brand gear as well as their signature line. They have discounted prices and clearance offerings too. The store has a great layout, broken down by different sections. The staff is friendly and helpful with a lot of knowledge on the products, brands and sports. Overall this place gets a huge thumbs up.

a week agoWe had a lovely person help us for almost an hour. Did a great job selling the items and the membership to us. As we were heading to the front we had an older gentleman come up to us and basically help us for 20s, re-pitch the membership to us, switch out the membership referral to his and then tell someone else at the front that he "got another one". He is one Mr. Steele. Would have been 5* otherwise. I don't respect an environment where employees apparently prey on each other. I will refuse to be helped by mr. Steele next time I come in.

a month agoI cannot say enough good things about my experience at this REI location yesterday. Upon entering we were immediately greeted by Steele and informed about membership benefits. Steele spent so much time walking the store with us and giving us his honest and valuable recommendations on equipment we would need for cold weather camping. We bought about $1400 of equipment including a 4 person tent, a water filtration device, hunting and pocket knives, and hiking boots. My sincere appreciation goes out to Steele and his amazing coworkers for our shopping experience. It's this level of phenomenal service which will make us customers for life. Thank you Steele! Give this man a raise because he deserves it.

3 weeks ago***I am updating my review as REI has changed its Corporate declaration. On 4/9/25, the new REI CEO Mary Beth Laughton rescinded REI’s endorsement of Trump’s Secretary of Interior (then nominee) Doug Burgum. She admitted it was a mistake to do so, which is a rare trait in today’s environment. She reaffirmed REI’s commitment in protecting public lands and the environment. Kudos for the about face and I will restart being an active co-op member. Thank you for the wonderful employees that work in every store, including REI ABQ. I am keeping the original post for context: For those unaware, REI’s leadership team endorsed Doug Burgum as Secretary of the Interior, who is tasked with and unabashedly supports developing and selling our public lands. REI had a unique position as a leading outdoor recreation company to take a stand against politicians and policies which destroy the environment and threaten humanity’s future. Instead, they took the route of political expediency. I have been a member for 16 years. I will not be setting foot in the ABQ REI, nor using my REI credit card, until the current leadership team rectifies this or the ABQ REI staff comes out against their corporate position. If you stand for America’s public lands, outdoor recreation and nature, I urge you to do the same. Support locally owned retailers or the primary vendors directly.
