a week agoWe visited Riverbanks Zoo today (for the 2nd time). I am always amazing at how clean this zoo is and how beautiful all the landscaping is throughout. It seems very well cared for. Parking was easy. We went on an overcast day in April that ended up drizzling towards the end, so it wasn't too busy. The staff was plentiful, so there was always someone nearby to ask any questions we had. The woman who sold us our tickets was very friendly! We loved their selection of animals. Our favorites were the koalas, rhinos, and tortoises. We took the walk across the bridge going over the river to get to the attached botanical gardens (included in admission). The next tram was in 10 minutes, so we decided to just walk the short but steep path to the gardens. Everything in the gardens was in full bloom, which allowed for many pretty photos. The children's area was impressive and looked like it would be a lot of fun. This fall the area opening a gondola that takes you from the zoo to the gardens. They were testing it while we were there, and it looked lovely. Every time we are in the area, we will be continuing to stop by this lovely little zoo. Keep up the great work!

a week agoRiverbanks Zoo is ALWAYS a good time! Kids love it, teens and adults can learn, and there's fun to have along with food to eat. It looks like they're working on cutting out the tram to the gardens and replacing it with a Skyway. Improvements, but wish the free tram was still an option. Anyway, most staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and the whole family has a good time feeling more connected with nature they may never see naturally.

a week agoLots of fun at the zoo! This is a very big place, you could easily spend a full day here. Buy tickets online to skip the ticket line. We saw some really amazing animals. I still feel guilty when visiting a zoo as I feel the animals should be free, and it makes me sad for many of them, but that is a discussion for elsewhere. At least this place is very well kept up and all the animals look healthy and taken care of. So much to see here! Wear good walking shoes! They have electric scooters for rent for those that need them too. Get there super early and go straight to the giraffes first if you want to feed them, as sadly they ran out of food very early in the day. The lorikeets too seemed less enthused than in previous trips. But still very beautiful. Half the exhibits were closed, or no animals to be seen. No Gorillas out, no otters, the penguin place is closed etc. Also it was HOT. So very hot, the later half of the day was hard to enjoy, until it got overcast. So for sure coming earlier than the end of April next time!! The food is crazy expensive, but the pizza from the watering hole was better than expected. But despite these things, we still had a lot of fun, and what we did see and experience was great. The Aquarium area is really amazing. All in all it was a nice day with family, worth the drive.

2 weeks agoWe came down from Maryland and absolutely LOVED this Zoo! This was our second time and we are always impressed! The Zoo guides are very informed and there are several interactive exhibits. I love the Wallaby Walkabout and how close we can get to the animals. The aquarium section is absolutely amazing and has the best variety of snakes I've seen anywhere. Our favorites are the gaboon and eye-lash vipers. We tried the ropes course for the first time and had such a great time. You can spend a good deal of time on it and it's very exciting. Our kids are still little and spent after just seeing the animals, so we haven't made it to the Botanical Gardens side yet, but if it's anything like the rest of the Zoo, I'm sure it doesn't disappoint.

a month agoWe just moved down here and had our first visit at the zoo and it was a beautiful day. The zoo is well taken care of, clean & all of the animals were out and about. This is by far the closest I've ever been to any animals at a zoo. I was truly fascinated. You can feed the giraffes, walk inside the kangaroos enclosure & we even saw the sea lions get their feeding time. We did notice some areas for food around the park but hoping there will be more of that once Summer gets in full swing.
