3 weeks agoWhile in town to cheer for the basketball game I decided to take in the sights. The Alamo is a wonderful venue to showcase some of American history. Very sad story but amazing experience. The city has done a fantastic job of preserving the history there. The massive limestone walls are 4 feet thick and over 20 feet tall. The most amazing story is in the room with an ancient frescoes that are recreated right before your eyes. It’s breathtaking. The courtyard has lots of historical information and significance. Read or listen to the recordings through your hand held device. There is a wonderful reenactment video that explains how the battle was fought. Brave people who died and survived the attack. Take your time and really walk through history and imagine what it must have been like.

2 months agoDefinitely a must see when in San Antonio! The buildings are lovingly and reverently kept and preserved, and the grounds are beautiful. The staff is knowledgeable and offered us assistance as I was pushing my husband in a wheelchair. One of the staff members gave us the history of the battles that led up to the Alamo and beyond. It was very moving to hear when standing in that hallowed place. I’d also highly recommend visiting at night. The grounds are lit up, including some ancient Live Oak trees. It’s a truly spectacular sight!

2 weeks agoWe loved the Alamo. We paid for the self guided tour and really didn’t use the recorded player. There was so much history there to take in we especially enjoyed the museum and was surprised to learn that a great many of the objects were donated by Phil Collins. We definitely recommend visiting.

2 weeks agoThis was the second most thing that was recommended for us to check out in San Antonio. Some of the activities such as walking through the gardens, the outside statues, and touring the church are free and other activities such as the self guided tours had a cost. Although going inside the church is free you still have to join the line to get your free ticket to scan. It’s a nice historical site to check out and to take great pictures. It’s also located in a convenient location near other inside & outside shopping and dining places.

a week agoWe explored some exceptional historical sites and gained a deeper understanding of the history behind the Alamo. We watched a short film and read the informative displays which really helped us grasp what happened over a hundred years ago. It was an incredible experience to connect with such a significant part of history.
