Detailed Insights

The Fear PDX offers a comprehensive Halloween experience beyond a single haunted house, featuring multiple distinct, well-produced immersive haunts with impressive practical effects and dedicated scare actors. It aims for a genuinely terrifying and engaging experience for a specific audience.

Key Highlights

  • Features multiple distinct immersive experiences, described as 'more than just a haunted house' and 'three immersive fun haunted houses'.
  • Provides 'multiple exits if you couldn't go on' within the experiences, suggesting flexibility for those who get too scared.
  • Boasts 'incredible practical effects' and well-put-together rooms/scenes.
  • Staff and actors are praised for being 'super nice and respectful', and actors adapt their intensity for younger guests (e.g., 10 and 15 year olds).
  • The main haunted house experience is noted for being 'quite a bit longer' than expected.
  • Many scare actors are present both within the haunts and 'walking around the establishment', actively engaging and 'freaking people out'.
  • Scare actors are highly interactive, coming 'close to you, throughout windows, walls, or jump at you', and will 'scream, yell, chase/walk after you' for a terrifying experience.
  • Group sizes are managed, typically 4-6 people per group, with waiting areas inside haunts to allow actors to reset.

Standout Features

  • Provides multiple distinct haunted experiences under one roof.
  • Offers 'multiple exits' within experiences for comfort/bail-out options.
  • High-quality 'practical effects' and detailed room designs.
  • Engaging and respectful scare actors who adapt to the audience.
  • Main haunted house is notably long.
  • Opportunity to purchase souvenir photos at the end (though price is a concern).
  • On-site mini donut stand with highly recommended apple fritter donuts.

Perfect For

Ages 10-15: Found to be 'just about right' for this age group, suggesting actors can adapt intensity. Teens especially would appreciate the 'terrifying experience'.
Adults/Teens seeking intense scares: Explicitly designed for a 'really terrifying experience' where actors get close, yell, and chase.

Ideal For

Families with pre-teens (10+) and teenagers looking for an age-appropriate but genuinely scary Halloween activity.
Groups of friends or siblings seeking an intense, immersive haunted house experience.
Those who appreciate high-quality practical effects and interactive scare actors.
Visitors who prefer multiple distinct horror experiences rather than a single linear one.

💡Pro Tips from Reviews

  • Be prepared for a lengthy experience, especially in the main haunted house.
  • If seeking maximum scares, aim for later showtimes or be ready for close interactions with actors, including yelling and chasing.
  • Consider that actors may adapt their intensity for younger children (e.g., 10-15 years old).
  • Factor in extra costs for souvenir photos ($20 for 1, $30 for 2) and potential add-on experiences like the Slasher Shed.
  • The Slasher Shed is very short (3 minutes) and might not be worth the additional cost for all.
  • Try the apple fritter donuts from the mini donut stand.

Things to Consider

  • The 'Slasher Shed' add-on is described as 'so easy to figure out' and very short (approx. 3 minutes), potentially not worth the extra cost.
  • Some areas within the haunts, particularly earlier in the evening, were reportedly 'void of actors'.
  • One reviewer found the experience 'underwhelming for 35 bucks a person' and felt the '4 houses' were more like '1 with how short they were and no break'.
  • Spacing between groups can be poor, leading to 'barely got time to even be scared' or feeling 'not scary, at all'.
  • A reviewer reported only 'a handful of actors' in some areas and 'scare grounds' were 'boring' with only '3 actors walking around' for the general admission experience.
  • Some parts of the haunt were described as 'just dark and you couldn't see the animations or which way to go'.
  • Photos taken at the beginning are 'insanely priced': $20 for one, $30 for two.
  • Overall perceived as 'a giant money grab' by one reviewer due to price vs. experience and extra costs for add-ons like Slasher Shed and photos.

Price & Value

General admission is at least $35 per person. Reviewers had mixed feelings, with one calling it 'underwhelming for 35 bucks a person' due to perceived short houses and few actors, while others found it worth it. VIP tickets plus Slasher Shed cost approximately $130 for two people (e.g., 2 VIP + 2 Slasher Shed tickets). The 'Slasher Shed' is an extra cost add-on, described as short (3 minutes) and 'easy to figure out'. Photos taken at the beginning cost $20 for one or $30 for two, considered 'insanely priced' and a 'giant money grab' by one reviewer. Overall perception of value is split; some found it worth the cost for the immersive, lengthy, and terrifying experience, while others felt it was 'heavily disappointing' and a 'money grab' given the price and perceived lack of scares/actors in certain areas.

Accessibility & Special Needs

  • No specific accessibility accommodations mentioned in reviews.

🍎Food & Drink Policy

  • Features an on-site 'mini donut stand' with 'delicious' apple fritter donuts. No information about outside food or other dining options.

🚗Parking Info

  • Not mentioned in any review.

👥Crowd Levels

  • The 9 pm show was 'not too crowded'.
  • Reviewers who were 'some of the first that evening' reported some areas 'void of actors', suggesting early times might have a different actor presence.
  • The venue manages crowds by grouping guests into 'groups of 4 or 6' and using 'waiting line / group areas in the middle of the haunts' to allow actors to reset.
  • Despite efforts, some reviewers noted issues with group spacing, leading to 'people definitely got backed up' and complaints of groups being too close, affecting scare timing.

🛡️Safety Features

  • Provides 'multiple exits if you couldn't go on', offering a way out for guests who become too overwhelmed.
  • Employees and actors are described as 'super nice and respectful'.
  • Guests are grouped into small numbers (4-6) for managed flow.
  • Actors are noted to 'adapt' their scare intensity, potentially for younger or more sensitive guests.

When to Avoid

  • Families with very young children, as the experience is described as 'terrifying' with close actor interactions.
  • Budget-conscious individuals, as tickets can be pricey (e.g., $35/person, $130 for VIP extras), and add-ons like photos are expensive.
  • People expecting non-stop scares without any 'dead zones' or issues with group spacing, as this can be inconsistent.
  • Those looking for a quick scare with minimal effort, as the main house is long and some add-ons like Slasher Shed are short but cost extra.

The haunted house was quite a bit longer than I thought it would be. This was my first time going. I went to the 9pm show. It was not too crowded. They take your picture at the beginning and you can purchase 1 for 20 or 2 for 30$ at the end. Of course we had to purchase one. I would also recommend the mini donut stand. The apple fritter ones were delicious. I will definitely return to this location in the future with family and friends.

Had a fun time! Seriously not bad for what it is; a large environment with three immersive fun haunted houses. I paid VIP + slasher shed, but slasher shed was so easy to figure out (honestly it is 3 minutes tho so…). Lots of scare actors walking around the establishment and freaking people out! They got me a couple of times! They made sure to group me & my brother into groups of 4 or 6 at a time. They also made sure to have sort of “waiting” line / group areas in the middle of the haunts where people definitely got backed up in but that was necessary for the scare actors to reset etc — I could tell they were doing their best to move everyone through as fast as possible while still being friendly. The scare actors in the haunt are not afraid to come close to you, come throughout windows, walls, or jump at you by the way: don’t be shocked if they do, this is 100% expected and normal and they also will scream, yell, chase/walk after you (if they’re outside). If you want a really terrifying experience, I’d say this is it. I paid about $130 for 2 VIP tickets and 2 slasher shed tickets. A little pricier than I would have liked but I was willing since it was my first time going to a haunted house with my brother.

So much fun! We went with youngish (10 and 15) kids and it was just about right! I think the actors adapt, but I also want to give one of the final actors with a chainsaw so many kudos...you made me scream - for real!!! Such good makeup and effects. Only criticism is that some areas were void of actors, we are also some of the first that evening. Perhaps they were still getting ready?

Honestly underwhelming for 35 bucks a person. The 4 houses was more like 1 with how short they were and no break. They spaced people terribly, so you barely got time to even be scared. It wasn't scary, at all. They had maybe a handful of actors. Some areas of the haunt were just dark and you couldn't see the animations or which way to go. Then the "scare grounds" that come with your ticket was boring and had like 3 actors walking around. The slasher shed was okay but with the price of the ticket you shouldn't have to pay extra. Also the photos you take at the beginning are insanely priced. 1 picture for 20 bucks or both for 30. It just seems like a giant money grab and heavily disappointing. Won't be going back next year.
