This was incredible. We really just wanted some history/culture in a museum for our son, while we hid from the weather for a morning. This was thr BEST choice, we're so glad we picked this one. The Katrina exhibit is fantastic - really in depth about what went wrong beforehand, why it was so devastating, how the levels failed so badly, and the handling of the aftermath. Upstairs, the history of Mardi Gras balls and parades was SO great - costumes and jewelery on display, the videos and artifacts are fab.

Absolutely INCREDIBLE experience. Amazing history highlight tragedy and celebration!! Loved seeing the vintage mardi gras costumes so well preserved. Definitely a must visit for New Orlean’s extensive history, it’s worth the money. I reserved tickets in advance for my trip and was sold a faulty one, the worker at the front desk was nice and let me in to see the museum regardless.

Fascinating Mardi gras exposition and sadly educational Katrina one. This museum really was eye opening for me. Worth the visit.

Very informative. Nice juxtaposition of two important sides of NOLA. Well curated information and displays about the tragedies of Katrina, alongside the history of Mardi Gras.

We visited the museum for the Mardi Gras exhibition on level two but also saw the exhibition about Hurricane Catrina on level one. Both were very informative. We had no idea how often New Orleans suffered with the devastation of these hurricanes. In the Mardi Gras exhibition, we learnt how the date of the processions starts on the 6th of January and ends on Tuesday shrove Tuesday here or as the Americans call it Fat Tuesday before Lent. We saw the babies that are placed in the king cakes. Also, the stunning jewellery and head pieces designed for the queen of the processions. Fantastic museum and nice and cool to escape the heat outside.
