Triangle Rock Club - Durham

This is a great way to get a full body workout and have fun while doing it! Memberships are expensive, but they offer day passes and 10 punch passes that are great options for anyone who isn't expecting to go frequently. They have climbing routes for all different levels of skill, and you can rent all the necessary equipment there. It is important to note that if you are interested in the actual rock climbing (rather than bouldering), you should plan to go in a group of at least two people, since you'll need someone to belay while you climb.

Triangle Rock Gym in Durham is a climber’s paradise! This modern facility is equipped with everything you could possibly need in a climbing gym. The gym is clean, well-maintained, and designed with a welcoming atmosphere that encourages community. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, always ready to assist or offer tips, and the training areas are perfect for building strength and improving technique. Whether you’re a seasoned climber or a beginner, Triangle Rock Gym has it all, including rental gear, diverse climbing routes, and even yoga and fitness classes to complement your climbing routine. That said, I wish they’d expand to Wilmington, NC! The coastal city could benefit greatly from a gym like this, providing a hub for climbers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. A modern climbing gym in Wilmington would be the perfect addition to the area’s active lifestyle scene. If you’re in the Triangle area, this gym is a must-visit. Here’s hoping we see a Triangle Rock Gym in Wilmington soon!

Been here several times with the kids and for various birthday parties. Great place and friendly staff. It’s always full of climbers!

Love the place! I'm a noob to bouldering and this place has lots of options and paths for all experience levels. The staff is also incredibly helpful, welcoming and friendly!

Decent climbing facility but nowhere on the website does it say that you are only able to be lead belay certified if you can also lead climb. I visited with my partner who is very proficient at lead belaying but has no desire to lead climb. We were told that we needed to submit a special request to some random email. We traveled almost 2 hours only to be told she wouldn't be able to take the lead belay test. Never in my 8 years of going to climbing gyms have I been told that the belayer must also be able to lead a route in order to just lead belay. I wouldn't be as upset if this was mentioned on the website, but one would think lead climbing to not be required to lead belay. Additionally, every single top rope in the gym presents an inherent risk by utilizing captive eye carabiners instead of requiring tying into the rope. Over time these loops will be worn down and eventually fail unless rigorous inspection is performed. This is a major disservice to the climbing community in that it does not teach or enforce proper figure 8 knot tying. You are also not allowed to take practice lead falls which is an entire other issue for people looking to climb outdoors.
