2 years agoThis is a walking trail - very easy, no elevation changes. Be smart, lock your car doors as you are downtown. Offers beautiful views of the Birmingham skyline, and some shade once you get halfway along. There’s an entrance to the old mine back there but it’s blocked off now. Great for cyclists too!

3 years agoI liked it my boyfriend didn’t. He thought the park was too bland. I enjoyed the view and the rocks on the trail. Lots of trees and leaves. Can’t go wrong with seeing the Vulcan statue too.

6 years agoI “walked” this trail yesterday, and found it an excellent way to walk a few miles “in town.” I stayed at the Doubletree and noticed that no one put mileages on any of these comments. So, here’s some info. I did a just over 4 mi loop. Doubletree to Trail, walking up 20th St S, is about one mile, mostly uphill. (Don’t follow google’s directions to the Vulcan man, if you want to see him too, because there’s some insanity to it - it’s a shorter walk, and the parking lot is before the “hook.”) This walk will lose the sidewalk on 20th for a bit but it’s just a short stretch. It’s about one mile from the start of the trail to the junction of 11th Pl S. (Hard right turn, downhill - you can’t miss it.) You could probably shorten this up a tad if you go down the steps through the apartment complex below. Then, it’s about 2 miles back. I walked downhill 11th Pl S to where I walked around a business to 10th Ave S past the campus. There’s a ton of construction on campus right now but you can walk through. Overall, very pleasant. The trail is mostly shaded, with good views. I came across runners and cyclists, but not many. It’s quiet on a weekday morning. Birmingham has lots of good places to wander. I’d recommend this.

6 years agoBeautiful trail with great views of the city. Long enough to actually go on a jog, or you can walk the whole thing. Lots of people bring dogs!
